Bridal Veil

Wedding veil?

contributed by Cornsilk P

I have a beautiful dress for my wedding but couldn’t bring myself to spend an extra $200 plus dollars on a veil! I’ve looked on ebay but am a little iffy on the quality of some of the veils pictured. Can anyone reccommend a site to buy a quality veil from without breaking the bank?

Wedding Veils 101

contributed by Lesley-Ann Graham

Veils were traditionally used to hide the bride’s identity, as part of a custom that the bride and groom would be kept utter strangers until they met at the altar. (This also explains the superstition that you’re not allowed to see each other on your actual wedding day.)

Today, veils serve no other purpose than to make you feel beautiful. Of course, it also adds to the wedding’s romance: the magical moment of the bride lifting her veil for her first kiss often inspires tears.

Here are some things to remember as you survey your options:

A blusher is a short veil that’s worn over the face, then flipped back when it’s time for the groom to kiss the bride. It’s usually sewn to a longer veil, or a hat. The fly-away veil just brushes across your shoulders, while the elbow veil (as the name implies) falls in the middle of your arm, approximately 25 inches. The most popular veil, however, is the fingertip. It’s composed of several layers that reach up to the hands.

Because of the return of vintage dresses some types of veils are regaining popularity. There’s the waterfall veil, held in place by a headband, and often made with several layers of tulle. Other options are the mantilla (a Spanish veil that’s draped over the head, usually with a lace border) and a ballet (which kisses the ankles).

When choosing a veil, consider your height. If you’re very petite (under 5’4″) a very long veil will overwhelm your frame. Stick to an elbow veil. If you’re over 5’7″ you can wear a fingertip veil, which look gorgeous on your statuesque body. Also look at the detail of your dress. Your veil should lead the eye to the focal point, such as embroidery or lace.

How do you get wrinkles out of a wedding veil?

contributed by weirdiscomplimentary

I am borrowing my FMIL’s wedding veil. It has been stored away for 30 years and has some wrinkles. How do I get rid of them? I don’t want to ruin it!

Can a wedding veil be ironed? Steamed?

It is just regular bridal tulle or whatever most wedding veils are made of. It has lace on the edges, but it is basically just veil material.

The Perfect Wedding Veil and Head Dress

contributed by Shannon Medley

There are numerous types of bridal veils to select from for your very special wedding day. However, there are a few things that you must decide before picking out the type of veil you will wear.

1) You need to pick out your wedding gown – this will determine if you are having a formal or casual wedding and you will be able to match your veil with your gown..

2) Choose your hairstyle. Talk to your hair stylist about your different options depending on your hair length and type of hair.

Now, let’s consider the different types of veils. Veils can vary in price from as little as $20 (if you make it yourself) or ascend in cost into the thousands of dollars for veils with pearls or real precious stones. Let’s go with the premise that you don’t want to spend thousands of dollars for your veil. We’ll look at a few cost-effective types of wedding head dresses and veils.

COMB

A comb can be plain, but stately. A comb is great if you want people to look at your wedding gown more that your headwear. If you have short hair, a comb is the perfect choice. If you choose a comb, take your comb to your hair stylist so she can try out different styles to compliment the comb.

CROWN

A crown is perfect for the bride that is going for the traditional look. Crowns frequently have beads, precious stones or flower designs on them. A crown is perfect for the bride who wants to wear an updo hairstyle.

HALO

A halo is a circular headpiece and may be used alone or with a veil. Just like the crown, it can have a combination of beads, precious stones or flower designs. Halos are a fine choice if you plan to wear your hear in an up do or if you have short hair.

TIARA

Have you ever wanted to be a princess? Than choosing a tiara for your wedding can make you feel like a princess! A tiara is perfect for just about any hairstyle or wedding dress.

No matter which style of veil you choose, have a wonderful wedding day
